I love GOOOOOOOOLD! Yes, just like your favorite character from the Austin powers movies.
Kodak gold is one of the best values in color film that is also a great performer. It has the ability to warm up your scene or even create contrasty photos on an overcast day. It may not be as sharp as its big brother, portra, but this is a great value if you are looking for quality budget film. In years past, I spent a lot of time with this film. Below is a photo from 2013 where I snagged a bulk order of gold 200 for just about $3 a roll. 12 years later, it’s a little more expensive than that, but it’s still a great value in the market compared to almost $18 a roll for portra.

Gold is super versatile and simple to use. It has a tendency to blow highlights due to it being a consumer film with less latitude than pro stocks, so the most I push is to meter at 100 and have fun. Below are some favorites from Kodak Gold metered at 100 from years past.

I have been primarily a budget film shooter the past 10 years sticking to black and white and home developing, but recently have taken the plunge back into color stocks. Specifically, my old friend, Gold.
The below photos are from Friday Harbor, WA and developed by negative lab in California.
