Sweet Heat Lightning

5 minutes at dusk and it is gone. If you didn’t look outside, you would have never known anything was different from a normal night.

The beauty of this time of year is the length of light. Even near 10pm, you still get a small glow in the sky. Mix in some heat and humidity, you get storms rolling past pretty often. Seeing the colors along with the flash of the lightning illuminating the columns, I knew this would be worth grabbing a camera for.

Start to finish, it all lasted no more than 5 minutes before it was too far beyond the surrounding hills. I first was watching the storm past a neighbors house, but moving into the street, it opened up the whole view of the cloud column.

I don’t typically do night photos, so all of these were taken hand holding my Fuji out in the street while trying to time the lightning perfectly. In all, I took about 20 photos and 2 caught lightning bolts. Pretty good for beginners luck.
