I own a bike. I haven’t rode it for over a year. My son and I pulled them out of the garage this past weekend and he says to me, we can go around the block a couple times for you to learn how to ride again. I am good, I tell him. It’s not referred to as just like riding a bike for nothing.

This got me thinking about many things in regard to photography. First, it’s not like riding a bike when you pick up a camera. You need to work to keep the muscles and intuition strong. Second, how often do you overlook this exercise because you are at home and you feel this is not exciting enough to be to work on your craft.

Well frankly, I think that is the perfect place to sharpen your skills and sharpen them often. You have the benefit of experiencing conditions you are familiar with in different light, seasons, weather. What better place would there be to pick up a camera and put it to work each day?

I have struggled with this over the years and have tried to make a much stronger effort to grab a camera at home and not overlook the sights we see the most. It is the time of year where the garden is starting to get exciting too, so this is a great place to point my lens and keep working on my craft and experience the beauty we see each day.
