Welcome!

Hello and welcome to the first post on this new home for me. It was only fitting that I found a typewriter where we stayed in Colorado and was able to put this first post together. I carried this piece of paper with me on our whole trip, trying not to bend it or fold it. It survived and has made it back home, but the photo of it with the mountains in the back is much more pleasing. Here are the words:

“Where We Are”

If you are reading this, then it means you are feeling, at least slightly, the same way I am regarding the current state of the tangible vs the digital direction our days have become. This is a great starting point. I thank you for coming along as I work to claim the time lost to content being shoved at us each moment, to taking this time to focus on the freedom to create for the sake of fun again and not to just share and scroll on. What does this mean or look like? Well, I am asking the same question to myself honestly, but if you claim this needs to be something specific, then it is creating a box and removing the creativity and fun we are looking to wrestle back. Where we are is about the ability to live and be “where we are” and be okay and proud of that. Not being influenced by others telling you more exotic places can only yield the results you need to thrive. We can thrive and be proud of what you make anywhere, no matter where or when. “Where we are” is not about me, but the idea of the forgotten art of being content. That may be learning something new, or simply finishing projects, like I have been putting off, and finally not making excuses or viewing others and thinking you are not good enough. Thank you for coming along with me on this path and I look to not make this just more content, but build a community of us claiming back our time and making real connections with each other. So, THANK YOU for even making it this far. Cheers to many memories to come and owning each day.

  1. Congrats on the newsletter and blog. Hope the road is treating you and the family well. How will you balance between analog and digital photography on this journey and way forward?

    1. Hello my friend! I hope you are well. Life on the road was hot, but very fulfilling. Travel is the best medicine there is. I hate fumbling with camera, so I struggle with multiple formats or cameras. For this trip, I primary had my Fuji with a strap on my body, then I kept my 35mm easily accessible in my pack to be able to stop and use it when I wanted those results. I try not to shoot the same scenes on film / digital, so I will pull out the film camera for basically “b roll” when we are on the go. How have you balanced this?

      1. I haven’t quite figured it out yet. I basically use what I feel that day. Sometimes it’s digital sometimes it’s film. Often times it’s analysis paralysis, ha!
